John Hitchcock's public sign project "Inherited Pedigree" consists of mythological hybrid creatures based on childhood memories and stories. Buffalo, wolves, wild boars, deer, and moose act as starting points for his graphic interpretations that explore notions of good, evil, death, and life cycles. "Inherited Pedigree" is a response to intrusive behavior towards nature by humans. The signs are positioned in protected areas commonly populated by human activity (recently constructed public restroom, hiking trails, and camp sites). They signify a relationship to how animals are displaced, relocated, and analyzed. Who is the invasive creature?
